Dr. Sara Hooker
VP of C4AI, Cohere
Dr. Sara Hooker is the VP of C4AI (Cohere For AI) at Cohere, the enterprise AI platform valued at over $2.2 billion. She founded and leads Cohere For AI, a nonprofit research lab that conducts open research to solve complex machine learning problems and advance AI science.
Before joining Cohere, Hooker was a researcher at Google Brain and founded Google's first AI research lab in Africa (in Accra, Ghana). She completed a double major in Economics and International Relations before transitioning to AI research.
Her research focuses on model efficiency, pruning and compression of large language models, fairness in AI, and the democratization of AI research. She has published influential papers on how model compression disproportionately affects underrepresented classes and the importance of making AI research accessible to a global community.
Through Cohere For AI, Hooker runs research programs, scholarships, and community initiatives that bring diverse voices into AI research.
